Rangers Vs. Capitals: Well That Was Vesey

rangers Brad Mills

I am fairly positive the Rangers last year would not have won this game. I do not want these generalizations because in truth, we do not know, but the ability of Rangers to roll four lines makes a huge difference. The Rangers were monsters of the neutral zone, forced a ratio of four to one turnover and bombed until they were leading in the third possession. The speed and transition Ranger has all from the offense, but he continues to work. Adam Clendening and Ryan McDonagh did a great job in terms of the transition to D O, but they were the only two able to do on the back end. Not the best recipe for success, especially when the whole system collapses without these lanes of the puck. There are many positives about this victory, however. Jimmy Vesey was a monster, had two goals (one in which he was in the right place at the right time, one that was just a disgusting gesture) and played a solid overall game (second among all attackers with a 60% corsi for). Josh Jooris was head forward with a corsi 68%. He had himself a hell of a game - quietly - even matching against Alex Ovechkin and crew. There were a lot of things to like him quietly, which is not a bad thing at all from a guy who was a throwaway idea (and will probably sit back when Pavel Boutchnevitch). Rick Nash was best Rangers forward. He was a three-way monster, and this was one of those games where he did not put up points of people screaming about how it sucks. It is ridiculous the amount of hatred as it gets. The first goal Vesey is not without its prior net game, and his ability to put the puck in the possession area is needed. Mika Zibanejad was good - it needs to start hitting the net, but - and got help. It was the quietest match Chris Kreider, but I still thought he was fine (only metric of possession are favorable, however). Brandon Pirri played a very solid game, too. Scored a great goal even strength that should help his confidence and had a good night "away from the puck." All good things about him. Mats Zuccarello and Derek Stepan played very good games, too. Both have registered for assistance. The defensive use concerns me a little big. Ryan McDonagh (which was spectacular all night) played more than 25 minutes, was the first QB power play for half the game and played nearly a minute and a half on the penalty kill also. It can not be relied upon so heavily, especially when Clendening did a good job on Saturdays power play. Speaking of ... In times of crisis Alain Vigneault ran with McDonagh and Nick Holden almost all other teams. Holden got back 22 minutes. It was a worse team corsi 35%, and has not been very effective at each end of the ice. Him playing much means it's most likely not sit back when Dan Girardi, meaning Clendening is. It is a problem. Marc Staal got absolutely victim on purpose to Ovechkin. Apart from that, it was solid. Staal did show improvements (we are not talking back to three years ago, but still) the Rangers hoped to see him and Girardi. He played well. This is a good thing. I thought Kevin Klein had a good game, too. Games like that are overlooked by people when it comes to crab Henrik Lundqvist blame for everything. Bruins Blog. It was huge. The Rangers are still bombing with the head in the third. It's not good. Attackers Rangers are much better equipped for the hull because of their speed and talent, but it is not always a good thing. This is a great victory for confidence in both the team - especially considering their two losses - and because the team is deserved. The Rangers still play tonight against Arizona so it's a quick turnaround.
